About East Coast Adoptions

slider-logo-trans-shadowWe are a small rescue group operating in the Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and New York area that only rescues dogs from high kill shelters and southern rescues. This means a majority of dogs admitted there are euthanized due to lack of space. We very rarely take in owner surrenders, and do not acquire animals from anywhere else besides these shelters we have worked with for years.

When we started the rescue in 2007, our collective mission was clear: save at-risk dogs from high-kill shelters and place them in loving, forever homes for the benefit of the dogs and humans alike.  We believe the best way to end pet overpopulation and animal cruelty is a unified front with local shelters, other rescue groups and the community. We were so committed to this that we used to drive 12 hour days to save homeless animals, and bring them back to our houses. Now we use USDA certified transporters, and we are proud to be a 501c3 non-profit agency that saves many lives each year. Dogs In Danger Rescue (we are not dogsindanger.com) is our rescue originally based in Maryland but, since we expanded to 4 other states, we are now DBA East Coast Adoption Agency.

transportWhile East Coast Adoptions is currently a foster-based rescue, our long-term goal is to have a kennel which will enable us to increase our number of rescues, especially for adult dogs. In fact our goal is to begin construction this year. East Coast Adoption Agency houses ALL breeds. Whatever the shelters want to send to us, is what we take. We do not say no to “less desirable” breeds and do not only take in “highly adoptable” dogs, because everyone deserves a chance!

We are committed to saving the right dogs for the right people and offering support and education to ensure a successful forever situation for both our dogs and the humans who adopt them.

Boeing and Todd

Our dogs currently in foster, are kept in large play pens, indoors, with plenty of toys, food, water and blankets. We believe that fostering should be a positive experience for the dog, and adopting should be an smooth, wonderful experience for you. ECAA only takes in dogs from high kill shelters in rural areas before they are euthanized.

We are a no-kill rescue and feel that once we’ve made a verbal commitment to an animal, it’s a lifetime commitment on our part. We feel that when you adopt from us you become part of our family, and we keep our doors open to you for a lifetime. We only euthanize for health problems that have eliminated an animal’s quality of life and there is little to no chance of ever recovering, or in rare cases, of extreme aggression that could not be corrected after extended rehabilitation.

You Can Help!

Since 2007  Dogs In Danger Rescue, Inc./East Coast Adoption Agency (a no kill agency) has been saving thousands of mixed breed dogs in southern kill shelters and transporting them to northern states to be adopted. These dogs have proven themselves to be wonderful companion animals, and we would love to save more from deaths door. Overpopulated shelters in the south that we work with have to euthanize 8/10 dogs that come through their door due to lack of kennel space.  Unfortunately, we can’t take many adult dogs at this time due to a lack of foster homes. However, we do take in the mother dogs of the puppies that we accept.

We figured out a way to solve this by building a small facility this year, that would house up to 10 adult dogs at a time. Potentially, we could save 520 adult dogs each year compared to about 25 now. This project will be a comfortable environment for the homeless dogs, including indoor and outdoor runs, heat, and an adoption room. It will be located in Smyrna, NY.  Please help us to achieve our goal….all donations are tax deductible! If you’d like to donate, please visit YouCaring.com. All donations are greatly appreciated.
